Are you a market lover? Here in Gran Canaria, you can really indulge yourself. There are more than 20 daily and weekly markets, and of course some annual markets. Below I give you an overview of the nicest, cutest and most popular markets. At the typical tourist market, for handbags, shoes and other products, haggling is recommended though.
Basically, everything is good to do by local bus (guagua municipal) unless otherwise stated.
Craft markets
San Mateo
Every week, a market is held here in the centre of the town on Saturdays and Sundays from 8am to 2pm. It is one of the most traditional markets and is known for the many fresh vegetables and Canarian specialities sold there. For this visit, I recommend hiring a car. Leave on time, otherwise you will end up in traffic jams; it is a popular market.

Teror
The most traditional and one of the most beautiful markets in the Canary Islands. Located around the basilica of the Virgen del Pino, the market offers all the specialities of the island, crafts and typical products of Gran Canaria. Every Sunday, from 8am to 2pm. For this visit, I recommend hiring a car. Leave on time, otherwise you'll end up in traffic jams - it's a popular market!
Tejeda
Every first Sunday of the month, in the morning hours, there is the agricultural and craft market in Tejeda. Here, visitors can find products harvested and produced in Tejeda, among other things. Potatoes, plums, oranges, cheeses, wines or almond sweets are some of the products that can be found at this market. Tejeda is a cute village and one of the highest villages on the island. For this market, I recommend hiring a car.
Vegueta
The craft market in Vegueta, Las Palmas, is every Sunday from 11am to 3pm (except from July to September). Beautifully located in the historic old town. It is organised in Plaza del Pilar Nuevo.
Tourist markets
Playa del Inglés
Every Wednesday and Saturday, the market is held in Playa del Inglés in cc Alquila Roja. Many stalls with bags, shoes, lingerie, tablecloths, flowers... On saturdays you will also find as well as fruit,and vegetables.
It's a busy market. Bargaining is recommended! Near the market is Freddie´s bar, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee in the shade (with fresh apple pie! Mmmmmm)
Puerto de Mogán
Every Friday in the morning from 8.30am to 2pm. It's the same kind of market as in Playa del Inglés and Arguineguín. Beautifully located in the cute streets of Puerto de Mogán and runs along the quay. Because a lot of people come, the charm of the village does get a bit lost on Fridays. I would therefore recommend visiting the market in Playa del Inglés or Arguineguín and stopping off at Puerto de Mogán on days when there is no market.
Arguineguín
The same kind of market is organised every Tuesday in Arguineguín.
Flea markets
Las Palmas
A flea market is held every Sunday from 9am to 2pm on Juan Rodríguez Doreste Boulevard. What can you buy there? Everything: trinkets, tools, clothes, home accessories, crafts... This flea market is so varied that there are things that can only be found here. And... cheaper than anywhere else!
San Fernando
There is also a flea market on Sundays in the south of the island, in San Fernando, near the city park "Parque Sur", near the football fields. Here, too, there is plenty of space for 2nd-hand goods.
Craft fair
If you are here from 2 to 5 January, the handicraft fair in San Telmo, Las Palmas is a must. Many artists and artisans sell their beautiful handicrafts here, in view of 3 Kings, the day when family and close friends give gifts to each other en masse.
